Can I Print GPSU manual?
Yes, in the "Docs" folder on the CD you will find GPSU40n.RTF. You
can open, view and print the .RTF file with WordPad.
Where Can I Get a Cable to Go Between My GPS and the PC?
Some GPS manufactures offer GPS to PC cables. Garmin and Magellan
offer cable for most of their units and some are even packaged with the unit.
There are several web sites that offer connector for those that would like to
build their own cables. A couple of these are
http://www.gpscables.com/ and
http://pfranc.com. You can find others on the
Internet. Pfranc also offers a USB to Serial converter. I have also tested a USB
to Serial converter made by
Cables To Go. For those manufactures
that do not offer cables you can contact the following marine electronics
dealers the get custom cable built. Bill’s Marine Electronics, Inc. in Wilmington,
contact them at (910) 686-3986 or (910) 686-3985. (You will need to inform them
that the cable is for Maps Unique Electronic Version and type of GPS.)
What are the waypoints CALNE, CALNW, CALSE, and CALSW that
appear in all of the different waypoint list?
They are calibration points used to align the waypoint list to the
map. There is no need to upload them to your GPS, but do not delete them from
the list or edit their coordinates. If they are altered, the waypoints will not
align properly on the map.
My GPS cannot store as many waypoints as there are in the list.
What can I do?
There are several methods to do this. You can select the waypoint that you want
to upload. You can delete the waypoints that you don’t want to download. I
prefer to use the "Filtering" feature in GPSU. An example is to open the map ( ),
click the "Current Point" ( )
button on the toolbar, next click a point on the map (such as the inlet you will
be leaving from), next click the "Filter" ( )
button on the tool bar. This will open a screen with parameters to use the
filter. In this screen check "highlight" in the "Mark As" box. Check the
"Waypoint" box. Check the "At a distance from reference point less than" and set
a distance (Such as 20nm). This will highlight all the waypoints 20nm and less
from the point you marked as the "Current Point". If you set the point a the
inlet and mileage to 20nm, then all waypoints within 20nm of the inlet would be
marked and can uploaded to the GPS. Please read the "Filter" section in the GPSU
Help for more details on filtering.
Next Click "APPLY" and then "OK"
Do I have to have the antenna attached to upload/download?
No, it is not necessary to have the antenna attached to
upload/download.
How do I plot my
personal waypoints on the Maps Unique map?
Each
waypoint list/file must be calibrated and linked to a specific map. We have
provided the calibration points on the CD and they may be merged with your
waypoint file to calibrate and link to the map you specify. This process must be
completed one time for each waypoint file. Once this is done you can open the
waypoint file in GPSU and see your personal waypoints plotted on the Maps Unique
Electronic Map.
You can
download the MU Calibrate Utility
program from the web site to automate the process or use the following
instruction to do it manually.
With your waypoints being displayed in GPSU, either by opening a file that you
have saved or downloaded from your GPS. Insert Maps Unique Electronic Version CD
in your CD-Rom drive and perform the following steps to plot your waypoints on
the Maps Unique Electronic map.
1) File
> Merge;
2) This
will bring up an “Open Dialog Box”;
3)
Browse to the CD-Rom drive that contains the Maps Unique CD [example
- MAPS_UNIQUE(D:)];
4)
Browse the Map-Data folder (there you will see a folder for each map/area);
5)
Browse the folder for the map/area that you want to use [example
– Wrightsville Beach];
6) Make
sure the file type is set to Text (txt);
7) Open
the file [example – Wrightsville Beach-Cal.txt];
8) This
will add the Calibration points to your waypoints [CALSW,
CALNW, CALNW, CALSE];
9) Next
go to the Map View ( )];
10) This
will bring up a Confirm box [example – Could not
load file: Wrightsville Beach.mub, Do you want to try again?];
11) Click
YES; Browse to the CD-Rom drive that contains the Maps Unique CD [example
- MAPS_UNIQUE(D:)];
12) Browse

13) Browse

Your personal waypoints will now be plotted on the Maps Unique
Electronic Map. You can now save the file (Premium
Edition only). This will save the Calibration Points and pointers to
the map on your Maps Unique Electronic Version CD in your waypoint file.
To use the map with this waypoint file in the future, you
only need to insert the CD into the CD-Rom drive and open your waypoint file.

How do I add my personal waypoints to Maps Unique's waypoint list and plot them on the
map
To best way to plot your waypoints along with Maps Unique’s waypoint
is to first create and save your waypoint list to your PC (Premium Edition

or by typing them in. To type them in Start GPSU and starting a new file, FILE >
NEW. Then you can add your waypoint by RECORD > NEW.
After you have created your waypoint file then start GPSU and
open the Maps Unique waypoint file (map) that you want to use. Then FILE >
MERGE. This will add your personal waypoints to the Maps Unique waypoint list and will
they will plot on the map.
How do I measure the distance and determine the bearing between 2 points on the
map?
First go to the Map View mode ( ),
then select “Identify / Measure” tool ( )
position the mouse pointer at the point you want to start from, press and hold
the LEFT mouse button, drag the mouse to the target position. The distance and
bearing are displayed in the text box.

Unique Electronic Maps To My GPS.

to/from their GPS units.

No, your current GPSU registration number will work with the GPSU +
Maps Unique version and upgrade it the Premium Edition.
Why do I get an the error "Dataset contains READOLNY information Cannot Save or
